KOTA KINABALU – Sabah will ensure that digital tourism, a strategic thrust in the 2020-2030 National Tourism Policy, is applied in developing sustainable, competitive and inclusive tourism products in the state.
Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said in a statement today that the ministry will ensure the policy is applied to boost the state’s tourism sector, which is an important contributor to Sabah’s economic growth.
“The ministry welcomes the government’s efforts to restore the tourism industry through the implementation of the National Tourism Policy 2020-2030,” he said, and called on all quarters to support the government’s efforts.
The ministry, he said, is aware that the tourism industry will take at least two years to fully recover, but that should not be an excuse to stop implementing programmes that have been planned.
“The ministry is making efforts to diversify tourism products as well as upgrade infrastructure facilities,” he added.
He said efforts are also being made by the state government to preserve and conserve the environment, heritage and culture of Sabah, as they are important tourism products. – Bernama, December 24, 2020
