PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has no plans to take disciplinary action against Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Members of Parliament who hold differing views on certain issues, according to the party’s Communications Director, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
Following a closed-door meeting with PKR leaders in Selangor, Fahmi said the Prime Minister — who also serves as PKR President — had urged party members to respect differing perspectives and to focus on strengthening unity across the party.
“The Prime Minister has clearly stated that for a few MPs who differ in opinion on certain issues, he does not intend to take any action. They have the right to express their views,” said Fahmi.
“He has also asked all branch chiefs and party members to understand this and move on.”
Fahmi, who is also the Minister of Communications, added that Anwar had advised newly elected branch leaders to practise inclusivity in forming their local committees, encouraging the inclusion of individuals from across the party spectrum.
“The Prime Minister emphasised that even those who lost in the recent party elections, or who are not from their own camp, should be included as part of a united team for the sake of the party’s overall strength,” he said.
Anwar further informed party leaders that appointments to the State Leadership Councils (MPN) would be finalised by the end of July. He instructed the party’s election machinery to begin groundwork mobilisation from August to strengthen grassroots engagement.
On the matter of recent criticism surrounding the appointment of Malaysia’s new Chief Justice, Anwar reaffirmed that the process had followed all constitutional protocols.
“The Prime Minister only advised the King after consultations with the Conference of Rulers. The process fully complied with constitutional procedures,” said Fahmi, adding that the list of nominees had been prepared by the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC).
Fahmi noted that no judges had been removed during the appointment process — in contrast with past practices — and said Anwar welcomed constructive criticism from institutions such as the Malaysian Bar and Bersih.
“The Prime Minister stressed that the judiciary must remain free from interference, whether from the legislative or the executive branch,” he said.
The meeting, which lasted just under an hour, was attended by senior PKR figures including Vice-Presidents Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, PKR Youth Chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, and Women’s Chief Fadhlina Sidek. - July 19, 2025
