FOUR additional areas across Pahang, Kuala Lumpur, Terengganu and Melaka recorded unhealthy air quality levels as of 8am today, bringing the total number of affected locations to nine.

According to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) of the Department of Environment (JAS), the new locations are Temerloh (API 156), Cheras (152), Kemaman (152), and Bukit Rambai (103).

The highest API reading was recorded in Alor Gajah, Melaka, at 159, followed by Nilai, Negeri Sembilan (158); Banting, Selangor (155); Johan Setia, Selangor (152); and Putrajaya (123).

The latest data also showed that air quality remained good in three locations and moderate in 56 others nationwide.

Earlier reports indicated that transboundary haze is currently affecting several west coast states in Peninsular Malaysia.

Director-General of the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia), Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip, was quoted as saying that the Asean Specialized Meteorological Centre (ASMC) had identified 79 hotspots in Sumatra.

He said, “This may be the cause of the hazy conditions in Malaysia, brought by south-westerly winds.” - July 20, 2025
