TWO foreign nationals believed to be the ringleaders of a violent armed robbery and burglary gang were shot dead by police during Ops Aman 6 in Jalan Semerah Padi in Cheras, early Friday morning.
Acting Director of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ), Datuk Fadil Marsus, said the suspects were allegedly involved in over 50 cases of house break-ins and armed robbery, causing losses exceeding RM3 million.
“The two suspects, who were in a Honda Civic, were detected by a team from Bukit Aman’s JSJ and Pahang JSJ while conducting a crime prevention patrol under Ops Aman 6 in the Taman Pertama area around 3.45am,” he said at a press conference at the scene.
“The vehicle matched the description of a car reported stolen in a 2023 Subang Jaya police report.”
Also present was Cheras District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Aidil Bolhassan.
According to Fadil, the suspects reacted aggressively when officers attempted to intercept their vehicle for inspection.
“They tried to evade capture by ramming the police vehicle and opened fire at the officers, prompting return fire in self-defence,” he said.
Both suspects were pronounced dead at the scene.
A search of the car uncovered two firearms – a revolver and a semi-automatic pistol – along with drugs and tools used in house burglaries and armed robberies.
“Further investigations revealed the duo were the masterminds behind a gang of 15 foreign nationals responsible for armed robberies and break-ins,” Fadil said.
He added that the gang primarily targeted luxury residential properties such as bungalows, corner lots, and end-lot houses in the Klang Valley, as well as locations in Negeri Sembilan, Perak, and Pahang.
Police believe the suspects were preparing for another robbery, given the discovery of items including bolt cutters, gloves, face coverings, firearms and narcotics in their vehicle.
“All JSJ units in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perak, Pahang, and Negeri Sembilan have now been mobilised to track down the remaining 13 suspects,” he said.
Despite more than 50 reported cases linked to the gang, Fadil believes the actual number of victims may be higher due to underreporting.
“We urge any individuals who may have been victims of this group to come forward and lodge a report at the nearest police station. We also welcome any information related to suspicious activity.
“The JSJ will not compromise on violent criminal activity that threatens public safety, and we will fight these criminals relentlessly,” he said. - July 25, 2025
