WATER supply across Sarawak remains stable and sufficient despite the current dry spell, State Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said today.

He said the ministry and the State Disaster Management Committee are on standby to monitor water sources and address any potential disruptions, but urged the public to use water prudently to prevent wastage and ensure continuous supply.

“Overall, the situation is under control and water treatment plants can still meet demand. However, leaks caused by third parties or ageing pipes could affect supply,” he said as reported by Bernama.

He was speaking to reporters after attending the Petronas Empowering Knowledge MLNG Bestari Outreach programme at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sebuyau.

Julaihi said water agencies under the ministry, Kuching Water Board (KWB), Sibu Water Board (SWB) and LAKU Management Sdn Bhd, have been instructed to remain prepared for any eventuality.

On the outreach programme, the Sebuyau assemblyman thanked Petronas, through its subsidiary Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG), for contributing RM800,000 to improve facilities at SMK Sebuyau, including expanding hostel capacity to over 250 students annually, repairing classrooms and donating basic equipment such as desks, beds, smart TVs and air-conditioners for over 1,000 students.

He said the school, currently in dilapidated condition, requires a full replacement and a tender has already been awarded to build a new campus in Bandar Baru Sebuyau. – July 26, 2025
