THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has opened an investigation into a company suspected of selling uncertified communication devices online, following a joint enforcement operation with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) under Op Taring Bravo 3.

A total of 3,837 units of various communication devices, estimated to be worth RM500,000, were seized by PDRM and handed over to MCMC for further technical analysis and assessment.

The confiscated items include wireless gaming consoles, wireless remote controllers, smart devices, tablets, and other communication equipment believed to have been marketed without valid technical certification from MCMC.

The case is being investigated under Regulation 16 of the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000, which carries a maximum penalty of RM300,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both, upon conviction.

“The MCMC remains committed to enforcing regulations to curb the sale and use of uncertified communication equipment. This is essential to protect consumer safety and maintain the technical compliance integrity of the market,” said the Commission in a statement.

The public is urged to report any information regarding the sale or distribution of uncertified communication devices via MCMC’s official complaint channels or to the Royal Malaysia Police. - July 28, 2025
