THE tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be the main focus of proceedings in the Dewan Rakyat today, setting the stage for the country's development strategy from 2026 to 2030.
According to the official Order of Business published on the Parliament website, Anwar—who also serves as Minister of Finance—is scheduled to present RMK13 at 12 noon, following the Minister's Question Time and oral question session which begins at 10am.
Following the presentation, today’s sitting will be adjourned, with the parliamentary debate on RMK13 expected to commence next Monday and continue over eight days. Ministers are then scheduled to respond over a four-day period beginning 18 August.
In a Facebook post yesterday, the Prime Minister announced that RMK13, themed “Redrawing Development”, had been structured as a comprehensive national development plan, with a clear commitment to fairness and inclusivity.
“It aims to elevate the dignity of all Malaysians without marginalising any group,” he said. “Its preparation involved wide-ranging engagement with stakeholders across sectors, backgrounds and regions, including state governments, to ensure the people’s voice is truly reflected in our national planning.”
Elsewhere in the Dewan Rakyat today, several key issues will be addressed during the Minister's Question Time. These include the rights and advancement of the Orang Asli community and the registration process for recipients of the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) cash aid initiative.
Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias (BN–Jelebu) will ask the Minister of Rural and Regional Development whether the government intends to amend the Aboriginal Peoples Act 1954 (Act 134), currently in force, to better safeguard the rights and future of the Orang Asli community.
Syerleena Abdul Rashid (PH–Bukit Bendera) is set to ask the Minister of Finance to clarify the registration process and eligibility criteria for the RM100 disbursement under the SARA initiative.
In a related matter, Kalam Salan (PN–Sabak Bernam) will request clarification from the Minister of Education on the percentage of graduates from teacher training institutes (IPG) who have secured their preferred placements, and the criteria used in the allocation process.
During the oral question session, Yuneswaran Ramaraj (PH–Segamat) will ask the Minister of Housing and Local Government to disclose state-by-state figures and the breakdown of non-Islamic houses of worship receiving maintenance and repair funding from the RM50 million allocation for 2024 and 2025.
Mohd Misbahul Munir Masduki (PN–Parit Buntar) will question the Minister of Human Resources on concrete steps being taken to address Malaysia’s estimated shortage of 10,000 engineers and artificial intelligence (AI) specialists.
The current parliamentary sitting is scheduled to run for 24 days, concluding on 28 August. - July 31, 2025
