THE foster mother of a seven-month-old baby girl who died after being found unconscious at a condominium in Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Cheras, has tested positive for drugs, police have confirmed.

Cheras Deputy Police Chief Superintendent Ridzuan Khalid said both the woman and her husband have been remanded for seven days to assist in the ongoing investigation into the baby’s death, which occurred on Monday night.

“The initial urine screening of the female suspect returned positive for drugs,” Ridzuan said in a statement yesterday, adding that the infant was found with signs of bruising and a bluish complexion.

While further checks revealed that neither the woman nor her husband has a prior criminal record, police are continuing to probe the case and will refer the investigation papers to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s office for further direction.

“The cause of death is still under investigation,” he added.

Authorities are appealing to members of the public who may have information regarding the case to contact the Kuala Lumpur Police Hotline at 03-2115 9999 or approach the nearest police station.

Earlier, Acting Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad confirmed that the suspects, aged 38 and 50, were the foster parents of the baby.

He said the woman claimed that the child had been entrusted to her by the biological mother, who later returned to Indonesia on 18 June.

The couple is currently being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which relates to the abuse, neglect or abandonment of a child. - August 1, 2025
