SARAWAK Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg has explained that the woman who has been accompanying him to official functions is his daughter, Dayang Norjihan and not a new partner.
Speaking at the opening of the Datuk Amar Juma’ani Bridge in Kampung Bintangor, Satok, Kuching, last night, he stressed that the woman was not his new wife.
"She had been supporting me since the passing of my wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.
“August 5 marks the 44th day since my wife passed away and I have to ask help from my daughter to accompany me.
“Looks like even this is causing some misunderstanding, with people asking: ‘who is that and how come there’s already a replacement.’ No, that’s my daughter,” he stressed.
Abang Johari also expressed his gratitude to the people of Kampung Bintangor for naming the bridge after his late wife, adding that it was not his request.
"I would to thank you for remembering my wife by naming the bridge after her," he said.
The construction of the RM50.665 million bridge started five years ago.
The iconic bridge design is expected to become a new tourist attraction in Kuching boasting the rich heritage and traditional lifestyle of the neighbouring Malay villages.
Abang Johari served as Satok assemblyman from 1981 to 2021 before moving to the Gedong constituency.
