PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday visited the organic paddy farming project at Desa Gemalai Baruh Padi Alami in Mulong, under the Kemubu Agricultural Development Authority (KADA), to observe efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and food security in Kelantan.

Anwar arrived at 11.15am, accompanied by Kelantan Chief Minister Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud and KADA Chairman Khalid Abdul Samad. The Prime Minister received a briefing on the implementation of the project before signing a commemorative plaque.

Bernama cited that he then walked to the paddy fields to inspect first-hand the methods used, including the use of solar-powered systems for irrigation and drainage, alongside other modern technologies applied to the 8.49-hectare organic rice cultivation, now entering its fifth planting season.

Despite the sweltering heat, Anwar spent approximately 30 minutes at the site before departing at 11.45am for his next engagement.

Established in 2023 and led by Mohd Yusri Mohamad Nor, the Desa Gemalai project practises chemical-free, eco-friendly farming, without the use of synthetic fertilisers or pesticides.

The initiative has achieved an average yield of around five metric tonnes per hectare, with support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security through KADA. - August 9, 2025
