TWO CT scan reports of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir are being sent to a hospital in Peninsular Malaysia for expert analysis and comparison, said the lawyer representing her mother, Noraidah Lamat.
According to Hamid Ismail, scans were conducted on the 13-year-old’s body before her initial burial and again after it was exhumed on Saturday.
“The CT scan was completed yesterday. Both reports will be sent to a specialist in the Peninsula for comparison to ensure transparency,” Hamid told reporters outside the Queen Elizabeth I Hospital Forensics Department.
The ongoing post-mortem is being carried out by two senior forensic doctors, assisted by two additional medical officers. While Zara’s mother remains on the hospital premises, she is not present in the examination room.
“Only our team member Shahlan Jufri is inside observing the process,” said Hamid.
On the potential findings, he explained that preliminary results will be shared with the family by Dr Jessie Hiu, the pathologist leading the procedure.
“Whether any criminal element is involved will be determined in the full written post-mortem report, which will be handed over to us once completed,” he said.
Asked whether there had been flaws in the earlier police investigation, Hamid refrained from comment, saying: “That decision lies with the District Police Chief. We do not wish to interfere in police matters.”
He added that if the post-mortem concludes early, Zara’s remains would be reburied at Tanjung Ubi Muslim Cemetery in Kampung Mesapol, Sipitang, later today.
Earlier, forensic consultant Dr Khairul Anuar from Serdang arrived at HQE I at 10.55am, escorted by a police vehicle.
Zara, a Form One student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Tun Datuk Mustapha in Papar, was found unconscious at school in the early hours of 16 July and died the following day at HQE I.
Her body was exhumed on 9 August following approval from the authorities, after the Attorney General’s Chambers stated that a more thorough investigation was required to ensure all angles of the case are explored. - August 10, 2025
