FORMER MCA Vice-President Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker has urged the party to make a clear decision on whether it wishes to remain in Barisan Nasional (BN), following the increasingly cordial ties between UMNO and the Democratic Action Party (DAP).
In a strongly worded post on Facebook, Ti claimed that BN is now no more than an "empty shell waiting to be broken", as UMNO and DAP are seen aligning more closely through various political events.
"UMNO and DAP display a level of confidence — even arrogance — that they can win the next general election with or without MCA or MIC," he said.
He added, "This sends a strong signal that DAP may well replace MCA and MIC, while BN is reduced to a hollow entity. This is the UMDAP position!"
Ti, a long-serving member of MCA, described the situation as a blow to the party’s grassroots and its long-standing alliance with UMNO. He warned that MCA must now either publicly reject such a perception or face political irrelevance.
“It is now MCA’s turn to deny this narrative or remain silent and risk losing its political dignity,” he said.
Drawing a parallel with a game of cards, Ti likened every handshake, every smile, and every photo-op at UMNO headquarters — often followed by social media posts from DAP leaders — as a calculated provocation.
"Each of these gestures acts like a taunt towards MCA and MIC, sending the message: 'It's up to you, MCA...'," he remarked.
Ti's comments come amid visible cooperation between UMNO and DAP under the current unity government, leading to internal tensions within BN, particularly among its non-Malay component parties. - August 10, 2025
