A WOMAN was killed and her husband seriously injured when their high-powered motorcycle crashed on the southbound stretch of the Senawang–Ayer Keroh Highway near Rembau late Wednesday night.
The fatal accident occurred at around 11.10pm at Kilometre 231.6 of the highway. The deceased has been identified as Zainab Abdullah, 69, while her husband, Ahmad Abdullah, 60, a retired army personnel, suffered severe head injuries.
Deputy Rembau District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Azmi Ali, said early investigations revealed that the Kawasaki ER250-C motorcycle lost control before veering into the emergency lane.
“As a result of the crash, the pillion rider was flung into the left lane of the highway and was pronounced dead at the scene by attending medical officers,” he said in a statement issued Thursday.
The rider was rushed to the red zone of Alor Gajah Hospital for emergency treatment.
The accident is believed to have occurred on a straight, three-lane, one-way road with a flat surface. Weather conditions were reported to be clear at the time, though the stretch lacked street lighting.
Zainab’s body has been sent to the Rembau Hospital Forensic Unit for post-mortem examination.
Azmi added that there were no closed-circuit cameras (CCTV) in the area, and authorities are now seeking independent witnesses to assist in the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Faulty Brake Causes Lorry to Crash into Vehicle at Perling Toll Plaza
In a separate incident in Johor, a trailer lorry with faulty air brakes veered out of control and crashed into a vehicle at the Perling Toll Plaza heading towards Gelang Patah on Wednesday, though no injuries were reported.
Johor Bahru North District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh, confirmed the incident, stating that police were alerted to the crash at approximately 5.30pm.
“Investigations revealed that the accident occurred when a Volvo FM12 trailer, driven by a 26-year-old local man, was travelling from Perling towards Gelang Patah,” he said in a statement.
“Upon approaching the Perling Toll Plaza, the trailer experienced a malfunction in its air braking system. As a result, the vehicle lost control and crashed into a Perodua Aruz 1.5X driven by a 39-year-old local woman.”
The impact caused visible damage to the Aruz, including the left door, mudguard, and bumper.
However, both drivers escaped unharmed.
The case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for failing to control a vehicle and causing an accident, an offence which carries a maximum compound fine of RM300. - August 14, 2025
