A 33-YEAR-OLD man has been charged in the Sessions Court in Temerloh with two counts of physical sexual assault against a six-year-old girl at an orphanage in the district.

The accused, who is reportedly the husband of a teacher employed at the orphanage, faces charges under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides for a prison term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Khairunnisa Zaffar led the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.

Judge Jamaludin Mat refused bail, citing the severity of the alleged offences involving a minor.

The court has fixed 27 September for mention of the case. - August 22, 2025
