THE Johor state government is closely monitoring developments following a minor earthquake that struck Segamat at approximately 6:13am today, registering a magnitude of 4.1.

Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, stated that he had contacted Segamat District Officer, Mohd Ezzuddin bin Sanusi, who confirmed that there have been no reported casualties or damage to property.

"I have been in contact with Tuan Haji Mohd Ezzuddin bin Sanusi, the District Officer of Segamat, and have been informed that, as of now, there are no reports of casualties or property damage," he said in a post on platform X this morning.

"The Johor State Government is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the relevant agencies," he added.

He also urged the public to steer clear of unstable structures and remain alert to official instructions.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has confirmed that the earthquake's epicentre was located 5 kilometres from Segamat at a depth of 10 kilometres. It added that tremors were felt in several parts of Johor, as well as in Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and southern Pahang.

MetMalaysia will continue to conduct close monitoring and issue updates as necessary.

"Let us all pray that the state of Johor and the entire nation are kept safe from any disasters," said Onn Hafiz. - August 24, 2025
