THE largest-ever RXZ motorcycle gathering, held in Terengganu with around 150,000 attendees, has been marred by four road fatalities involving participants travelling to the event
Four motorcyclists lost their lives in separate road accidents while travelling to the RXZ Members 7.0 gathering held at the Gong Badak Sports Complex Motorsport Circuit in Kuala Nerus, according to Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Director, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.
"To date, we have received reports of four fatalities due to road accidents while en route to this year's RXZ gathering," he said on Saturday following the programme’s official launch.
He urged participants to exercise extra caution during their return journeys starting Saturday night and continuing into Sunday.
"Please adhere to traffic laws, obey all instructions from authorities and avoid dangerous stunts that could result in further accidents."
He also reminded riders to avoid reckless acts such as the 'Superman' stunt and to travel in groups for safety.
"If you are tired or drowsy, stop and rest at rest and service areas or petrol stations to prevent any unwanted incidents," he advised.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), he added, have been conducting monitoring and inspections throughout the event, focusing on education and smooth coordination rather than enforcement.
"Our main focus this time is education and supporting the smooth running of the programme, which has drawn over 100,000 riders from across the country and even abroad."
Records show the first fatality occurred at 6:30am on Friday at the Palong Lapan–Bera junction in Pahang. The second accident was reported at Kilometre 370 of the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2), near the Bukit Besi Rest and Service Area (RNR), and the third at Kilometre 394 of the same expressway near Ajil, Hulu Terengganu around noon. The most recent case involved a 36-year-old male rider who died in a collision with a trailer at Kilometre 45 of the Gerik–Jeli East–West Highway (JRTB).
Terengganu Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin, meanwhile confirmed that no summonses had been issued to RXZ 7.0 participants thus far.
"The police, together with the organisers, have taken several improvement steps compared to last year, particularly in crowd control and the placement of stages, to ensure the safety of all attendees."
"Once the event ends, we will resume normal enforcement to ensure road users comply with all regulations, and action will be taken against any violations."
The two-day RXZ Members 7.0 event, held at the Gong Badak Sports Complex, is reported to have attracted around 150,000 participants, making it the largest and most successful edition to date.
Programme Director Mohd Lukhman Hassan said the overwhelming turnout reflects strong support from the motorcycling community nationwide.
"I believe the 2025 RXZ gathering has been the most successful to date. With an estimated 150,000 participants, this edition has been the biggest so far."
"As long as there's continued enthusiasm from motorcycle enthusiasts in Terengganu, we will carry on hosting this event in the state."
The gathering, which attracted RXZ enthusiasts from both Malaysia and abroad, was officiated by AirAsia Chairman, Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, and attended by Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.
The event also featured a lucky draw offering major prizes including a Toyota Alphard MPV, RXZ motorcycles, umrah and travel packages, and other attractive gifts.
In a separate statement, Mohd Lukhman acknowledged shortcomings regarding official invitations to the state government and pledged improvements in future editions.
"We recognise there were gaps, especially in the early invitation process which was primarily directed at sponsors. We will engage with the state government to address this."
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, through his Senior Political Secretary, contributed a total allocation of RM300,000 to support the event, comprising RM100,000 from the Prime Minister himself and an additional RM200,000 sourced from corporate and private sector partners.
"We hope this financial aid will inspire organisers to continue staging such events in future," said Shamsul Iskandar.
He added that the Prime Minister had extended condolences to the families of those who perished en route to the gathering. - August 24, 2025
