THE government will not compromise on national security following reports of increased activity by foreign agents, said Communications Minister and Government Spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
He confirmed that movements of these agents are being closely monitored by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), with appropriate action to be taken to ensure public safety.
“The Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, recently confirmed an increase in the movements of foreign agents, following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s strong and vocal stance on Gaza and the Palestinian issue,” said Fahmi.
“It is undeniable that since the Prime Minister and the government adopted such a firm position on Palestine, he has become one of the most closely watched leaders in Southeast Asia by these elements,” he added.
Fahmi stressed that national security remains a non-negotiable priority, with PDRM conducting continuous surveillance. He added that regular briefings are conducted through platforms such as the National Security Council meetings.
“Although the security situation remains under control, no threat can be taken lightly. Malaysia’s position on Palestine is grounded in humanitarian principles, not mere sentiment,” said the Minister.
Malaysia’s longstanding position, he reiterated, is to demand an end to Israel’s military aggression in Gaza and to recognise the right of Palestinians to full independence.
“What’s different now is that our Prime Minister has succeeded in influencing the positions of other world leaders, which has had a very positive impact. For instance, former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte revised their stance following discussions with our Prime Minister,” Bernama cited him saying.
Fahmi also noted that Japan has expressed its commitment to work with Malaysia and other countries to assist in the reconstruction of Gaza. He affirmed that Tokyo’s stance remains unchanged and that discussions on joint efforts are expected to take place soon.
Speaking at the launch of the Gaza VR Time Tunnel exhibition developed by the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM), Fahmi praised the installation for offering an immersive, emotional journey into the reality of life in Gaza.
“I was deeply moved. It goes beyond showcasing geographical and architectural details – it also presents real-life incidents, including Apache helicopter strikes, tank assaults, and other heart-wrenching moments,” he said.
“This is precisely why we continue to stand firmly with Palestine and demand unconditional independence. It is a principled position of the Malaysian government,” he concluded.
The statement follows recent controversy over TikTok’s hiring of a former Israeli Defence Forces officer in its New York office, with the Malaysian government calling for a meeting with TikTok Malaysia and signalling possible regulatory action if concerns are not adequately addressed. - August 24, 2025
