Another minor earthquake strikes Segamat in early hours
The quake, which hit at 4.24am on Friday, was centred approximately 22 kilometres northeast of Segamat and was felt in several surrounding areas of Johor - August 29, 2025

A WEAK earthquake struck Segamat once again early this morning, the latest in a series of tremors recorded in the region over the past week.

In a statement, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported that the magnitude 3.4 earthquake occurred at 4.24am.

“The epicentre was located at 2.7 degrees North and 102.8 degrees East, at a depth of 10 kilometres. The quake was centred approximately 22 kilometres northeast of Segamat and was felt in several surrounding areas of Johor,” the agency said.

MetMalaysia added that it would continue to monitor the situation closely.

The early morning quake follows a magnitude 2.5 tremor that occurred in Segamat at 7.56pm on Thursday, which was also felt across parts of Johor.

On 24 August, a magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck Segamat at 6.13am, marking the first in a recent string of minor seismic events. A second tremor followed later that morning at 9.00am in Yong Peng, some 28 kilometres northwest of Kluang, registering a magnitude of 2.8 at a depth of 10 kilometres. - August 29, 2025
