STARTING today, a one-off RM100 credit under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) scheme is being distributed to all eligible adult Malaysians via their MyKad, with the amount usable at over 4,100 participating outlets nationwide until 31 December 2025.
Announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on 23 July, the assistance is available to all Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above, and can be spent on essential goods across 14 designated product categories, including those sold under the government’s Jualan Rahmah initiative.
Speaking in conjunction with the National Day 2025 celebrations, Anwar said the initiative serves as both a timely intervention to help citizens cope with the cost of living and a gesture of appreciation to the people.
“This aid will benefit 22 million individuals with a total allocation of RM2 billion,” he said. “It can be used from 31 August 2025 until the end of the year at participating supermarkets such as Mydin, Lotus’s, Econsave and 99 Speedmart, as well as registered grocery shops in every district across the country.”
He emphasised that the RM100 is allocated per individual, not per household.
“In other words, in a household comprising a husband, wife and two adult children, the total aid received would amount to RM400,” he added.
Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, acknowledged that while Malaysia’s overall inflation rate for June this year stood at a 52-month low of 1.1 per cent, food and beverage prices remained elevated.
“The cost of living remains a challenge that must be addressed both wisely and swiftly,” he said.
The combined budget for Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and SARA for 2025 has increased from RM13 billion to RM15 billion — marking the first time in Malaysian history that cash aid has been extended to all adult citizens. - August 31, 2025
