THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has remanded a senior police officer and another individual as part of an investigation into a suspected bribery case, believed to involve a payment of RM8,000 in exchange for halting a probe into a physical altercation.
Magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin granted a remand order for the police officer from 31 August to 3 September 2025.
The second suspect, a male civilian, is being held from 30 August to 5 September 2025 following separate applications made by MACC at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters and the Magistrates’ Court in Putrajaya.
According to sources, both suspects — a woman and a man in their 30s — were detained separately in Kuala Lumpur on 29 and 31 August between 10.00 pm and midnight.
“Preliminary investigations suggest the two individuals acted in collusion, with the male suspect allegedly serving as an intermediary to solicit approximately RM8,000 in bribes,” the source said.
It is believed the bribe was received by the male suspect in cash and then passed on to the female officer in the same manner.
Director of the MACC Kuala Lumpur, Mohamad Zakkuan Talib, confirmed the arrests when contacted.
“The female suspect is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, while the male suspect is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the same Act,” he said. - Sept 2, 2025
