A TOTAL of 41 out of 60 investigation papers involving criminal cases opened against politicians between 2020 and July were classified as no further action (NFA).
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, said further investigations and reviews of the cases involved could still be conducted if there were new developments in the future.
"Based on the feedback from the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC), throughout 2020 until July, 60 investigation papers were opened against politicians, with 41 of them classified as NFA.
"However, criminal cases, unlike civil cases, are not subject to a time limit. So, if there are new developments in the future, further investigations and reviews of this case can still be conducted," she said in a written reply to the Dewan Negara.
Azalina said this in response to a question from Senator Hussin Ismail who asked the Prime Minister to state the percentage of criminal cases involving politicians classified as NFA between 2020 and 2025.
At the same time, Azalina said, in relation to the mechanism or guidelines to ensure that the NFA classification is not influenced by political interference, the AGC is examining comprehensively all evidence presented in the investigation papers by the police without taking into account the background of the individual being investigated.
She said that the assessment was made based on facts, evidence and applicable laws taking into account the principles of integrity, transparency and independence of prosecution. – September 4, 2025
