POLICE are attempting to locate the biological mother of two children who drowned after the vehicle they were in plunged into Sungai Linggi in Tanjung Agas last Thursday.

Port Dickson district police chief Superintendent Maslan Udin confirmed that the 41-year-old woman who was in the car with the children at the time of the incident was not their mother, but the girlfriend of the children's father.

“The status of the relationship between the father and the children’s biological mother has yet to be confirmed. We do not know at this point whether they are still married or separated,” said Maslan.

Both the father and his girlfriend are currently under remand, after police said they had provided questionable statements regarding the incident.

Investigations revealed the 46-year-old man has 16 prior criminal records, including four cases in which he remains wanted. The woman has no previous convictions. Urine tests for both individuals returned negative for drugs.

However, checks on the vehicle involved in the drowning uncovered that it had been reported stolen in 2022, in a police report filed in Nusa Bestari, Johor.

It was earlier reported that two siblings, aged six and eight, drowned after the car they were travelling in with their parents slid into the river.

It is understood that at the time of the incident, the car was parked on the riverbank with the engine turned off while the victim's father went out for a short smoke break.

Both victims are believed to have been trapped in the vehicle and drowned, while the victim's mother, who was also in the car, was rescued by the public.

The bodies of two young siblings remain at the Port Dickson Hospital mortuary, pending post-mortem examinations.

A check at the hospital’s forensic department today revealed a quiet scene with no sign of the children’s relatives or hospital staff around the area as of midday.

The vehicle has since been pulled from the river with the help of a tow truck.

Police are continuing their investigations and urged anyone with information to contact Port Dickson District Police Headquarters at 06-6472222 or investigating officer Assistant Superintendent Husairin Che Hussin at 012-965 4927. - September 5, 2025
