AFTER years reporting on road mishaps and breaking news across Penang, senior journalist Edmund Lee now finds himself on the other side of the story – seeking justice and clarity following the death of his uncle, S.K. Lee, in a fatal motorcycle accident.

The 66-year-old victim was reportedly struck by a car driven by an elderly motorist while riding his motorcycle. The collision threw him to the ground, causing serious internal injuries.

Despite being rushed to Penang Hospital for treatment, he succumbed to his injuries several days later.

“My uncle was a kind soul. He loved doing charitable work and volunteered with the Buddhist Tzu Chi organisation, repairing household items for free,” Edmund said following the cremation held earlier this week.

Police have yet to identify a suspect, though the driver involved in the incident has filed a report, claiming it was merely a minor bump.

“This is what puzzles me,” Edmund said. “How does a ‘slight nudge’ lead to fatal injuries? I need to know what really happened.”

Determined to uncover the truth, Edmund has taken it upon himself to conduct a parallel search for evidence.

He has scoured social media and online platforms for dashcam footage or witness accounts and has checked with nearby residences and the Penang Island City Council’s CCTV control room in search of surveillance recordings.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, 27 August, between 10am and 10.30am, along the stretch opposite the Paya Terubong funeral parlour and the Shell petrol station.

Edmund is appealing to any eyewitnesses who may have seen the collision or have relevant footage to come forward and assist the authorities.

“I just want to verify what actually transpired,” he said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the police or reach out to Edmund directly. - Sept 6, 2025
