THE Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) today expressed concern over the cyberbullying of Dr Jessie Hiu, the pathologist involved in the Zara Qairina Mahathir case.

Its president, Datuk Dr Kalwinder Singh Khaira said the authorities must investigate and hold accountable those who threaten or personally undermine the professional work of the forensic pathologist.

"It is important that all doctors can conduct their duties in a safe and respectful environment without fear, threats, insults, or intimidation.

“We urge the Health Ministry and concerned authorities to take swift action and effective measures to ensure the safety of Dr Hiu and all other healthcare workers who may be affected similarly,” he said.

He said that while opinions may differ, public discourse must remain respectful and personal attacks and threats against medical experts doing their work must not be condoned.

"It is not reflective of our culture and must stop immediately," he said.

It was earlier reported that a 61-year-old man was arrested in connection with threats made against Dr Hui.

The suspect, who allegedly used the Facebook account under the name ‘Amung Kamaruddin’, was detained by police  in the compound of the Semporna District Police Headquarters.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said arrested the local man suspected of involvement in this case, and a mobile phone was seized during the arrest. - September 7, 2025
