AG-C issues show-cause notice to Mona Din over Zara inquest remarks
AGC says Mona’s Facebook post had questioned the testimony of forensic pathologist Dr Jessie Hiu from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu - September 11, 2025

THE ATTORNEY General’s Chambers (AG-C) has issued a show-cause notice to social activist Mona Din over a social media post that allegedly interfered with the ongoing inquest into the death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the AGC said Mona’s 4 September Facebook post had questioned the testimony of forensic pathologist Dr Jessie Hiu from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, potentially influencing public perception and disrupting judicial proceedings.

“Upon review, this department found that the post uploaded by Che Muna Din (Mona Din) — which, among other things, questioned the expert testimony of Dr Jessie Hiu — had the potential to influence public opinion and interfere with the ongoing inquest,” the AGC stated.

In response, a notice to show cause was served to Mona Din on 10 September under Order 52 Rule 2B of the Rules of Court 2012.

The AGC also revealed that criminal charges against other individuals who had made public statements about the Zara inquest — with potential to prejudice the case or affect its proceedings — will be filed in the near future.

The statement further stressed that the AGC takes a serious view of any actions that could compromise the integrity of judicial processes and will not hesitate to take firm legal action. - September 11, 2025
