A 20-YEAR-OLD woman died at the scene after her motorcycle struck a buffalo on a dark rural road in Kuala Terengganu. Police have launched an investigation under the Road Transport Act 1987.

A young woman was killed in the early hours of Saturday morning after her motorcycle reportedly collided with a stray buffalo in Kampung Alor Parit, Kuala Terengganu.

Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor, confirmed the fatal accident, which was reported to the authorities at approximately 3.10am.

“The collision involved a Honda Beat motorcycle and an animal believed to be a buffalo on Jalan Kampung Alor Parit,” he said in a statement.

The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Siti Nur Zainatul Akmal Hanim Muhammad Hanipah, who was travelling from central Kuala Terengganu towards her family home in Kampung Undang at the time of the incident.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the victim’s motorcycle struck a buffalo that was standing in the middle of the road, causing her to lose control and fall,” said Azli.

“She sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The victim’s body was transported to the forensics unit at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ) for further examination.
