THE body of an infant was discovered on the riverbank of Sungai Air Kala in Selat Pagar, Gerik, approximately 121 kilometres from Ipoh, on Monday afternoon.

Gerik District Police Chief Superintendent Abdul Samad Othman confirmed that the authorities were alerted to the discovery by a member of the public at around 2.15pm.

“The gender and ethnicity of the baby have yet to be determined,” he said in a statement issued on Monday night.

The remains have been sent to the Forensic Unit of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) in Ipoh for a post-mortem examination.

Superintendent Abdul Samad added that the case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code, which pertains to the concealment of birth and disposal of a child's body.

“Police take cases of this nature seriously and urge the public not to take matters into their own hands in ways that contravene the law,” he said. - September 16, 2025
