PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be in Sabah today to inspect the damage caused by recent landslides and floods, and to meet residents displaced by the disasters across the Penampang and Kota Kinabalu districts.
The visit will commence at 2.15pm with a site inspection at a landslide-hit area near the Block 20 parking lot in Country Heights, Penampang. Anwar would then proceed to the Kolopis relief centre at SK St Paul Kolopis at 3pm to assess conditions on the ground and ensure adequate support for evacuees.
At about 3.40pm, he will continue to the temporary evacuation centre in Kampung Sarapung, also in Penampang, before heading to a second landslide site at the Institute of Teacher Education (Gaya Campus) in Kota Kinabalu at 4.30pm. He is expected to return to Kuala Lumpur later this evening.
According to the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee, a total of 3,325 individuals from 964 families have been evacuated to 27 temporary shelters in Membakut, Penampang, Papar, Putatan and Sipitang, as well as to a permanent facility in Beaufort.
Landslides have claimed 13 lives in the state, while flooding has resulted in one fatality, bringing the total number of deaths to 14.
Earlier in the week, Anwar approved an immediate allocation of RM10 million via the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to support flood relief efforts.
“This amount is in addition to the RM11 million already channelled through the state government for urgent repairs to basic infrastructure in the affected areas,” he said.
The government continues to monitor the situation closely, with federal and state authorities coordinating relief, repair and rescue efforts to assist those affected. - September 19, 2025
