A YOUNG factory worker was killed after being struck by a forklift operated by his colleague in a warehouse at a factory in Banting, Kuala Langat last Thursday. Police suspect the forklift was being driven in a reckless manner at the time of the incident.

District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi confirmed that authorities were alerted to the incident via a MERS 999 emergency call at approximately 4.04pm.

“Initial investigation revealed that the incident occurred around 3.14pm while a local male worker was driving a forklift through lanes C1 and C2 inside the warehouse,” he said in a statement.

“At that moment, another employee — the victim — who was also a local man, was inspecting container stock and walked into the central lane. The forklift, which was continuing straight, struck the pedestrian in that lane.”

The victim, believed to be in his 20s, was thrown onto the ground and sustained severe chest injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant from Banting Hospital.

The forklift driver, aged in his 30s, was uninjured.

Police have opened an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

“Statements have been taken from the forklift driver, an independent eyewitness to the accident, and the victim’s next of kin,” Mohd Akmalrizal added.

The incident raises fresh concerns over workplace safety procedures and forklift handling in industrial settings. - September 20, 2025
