THAI authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle 450,000 yaba pills worth 13.5 million baht (RM1.8 million) into Malaysia via a courier service yesterday.

The drugs were seized in a raid at about 2pm local time (3pm Malaysian time) at a courier distribution hub in Sai Thong, Sungai Golok town.

The director of the Sungai Golok Narcotics Administration Centre, Supeeyan Daemokleng, said his party acted based on intelligence regarding a large-scale drug shipment via courier to Sungai Golok.

“We received information that a large amount of drugs would be sent via courier service to Sungai Golok. Our team began closely monitoring the situation.

“Yesterday, we conducted surveillance since early morning to see who would collect the package, but no one came. The drugs involved were then seized for investigation to identify the party responsible,” he said as reported by NST.

Supeeyan , who is also the Sungai Golok District Officer, said the operation involved the cooperation of district officers, the Sungai Golok Narcotics Prevention and Control Centre, local volunteers and Unit 3, Region 4, Narcotics Prevention and Control Bureau.

Initial investigations found that the drugs were from a region in northern Thailand to be sent to buyers in Malaysia, including Kelantan.

The seized pills were handed over to the Sungai Golok police for further investigation. – September 20, 2025
