A MAN in his twenties and his father, aged in his fifties, have been remanded for five days to assist in investigations into a machete attack that left a man seriously injured at the Paya Nahu Flats on Sunday.
Kuala Muda District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan, confirmed that the remand order was granted at the Sungai Petani Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Initial investigations, he said, found no evidence of gang-related activity or drug involvement, although a thorough inquiry is ongoing.
"At present, both father and son are in custody to help determine the motive behind the attack," Hanyan said.
The incident occurred around 3pm on Sunday when the victim, a man in his thirties, was waiting under a block of flats after being told by his sister-in-law that his brother was not home. While waiting, an unknown assailant approached and suddenly attacked him with a sharp weapon.
“The District Control Centre (DCC) at the Kuala Muda District Police Headquarters received a report from a member of the public at 3.55pm alerting us to the incident,” Hanyan said.
“Preliminary information indicated that there had been a fight and that someone was injured. Our investigations later revealed that the victim had come to visit his brother, and while waiting downstairs, he was attacked without provocation,” he added.
The victim, who sustained injuries to his legs and arms, was rushed to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) for treatment. He is understood not to have known his attacker.
Police arrested the primary suspect at the scene shortly after the incident and later detained the suspect’s father to assist with inquiries.
The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon. - September 22, 2025
