A MINOR earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale was recorded off the coast of Batu Pahat, Johor, at 9.04am today, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) confirmed.
In a statement posted to Facebook, MetMalaysia said the quake occurred approximately 25 kilometres southeast of Batu Pahat at a depth of 10 kilometres, with its epicentre located near latitude 1.7°N and longitude 103.1°E.
“Tremors may be felt around Batu Pahat, Johor,” the agency said, though it added there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
MetMalaysia assured the public that it is monitoring the situation closely.
While Malaysia is not typically prone to seismic events due to its location outside the Pacific Ring of Fire, Johor has experienced a handful of low-magnitude tremors in recent weeks, prompting closer observation from authorities. - September 27, 2025
