THE lorry driver who crashed into three vehicles in a fatal accident at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza yesterday has been remanded for two days to assist investigations.

Kajang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abd Yusof, said so far police have taken five statements, including from the owner of the company that is also the driver's employer.

According to him, following initial investigations, the lorry driver claimed that he jumped out of the vehicle because he was experiencing brake problems.

"The lorry involved in the accident will be sent for further inspection," he said on the accident involving a four-wheel drive Nissan X-Trail belonging to the Public Works Department (JKR), a Honda City car and a Proton X70.

The accident, which occurred at 10.50 am, left a 12-month-old baby boy dead while eight others were injured.

Naazron added that three family members of the deceased baby, namely the mother, grandmother and a twin, have been discharged from Serdang Hospital.

Meanwhile, a passenger in the Proton X70 is still being treated at KPJ Kajang and two JKR staff are receiving treatment at the Kajang Hospital.

Naazron said that police investigations found that the lorry was last serviced in April 2025.

"The police are still investigating whether there was a brake problem as claimed by the lorry driver that caused the tragedy," he added. - September 28, 2025
