A COMPANY owner has been arrested by Selangor police on suspicion of defrauding clients through bogus wedding packages, with total losses exceeding RM300,000.

Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Shazeli Kahar, confirmed on Monday that the man was taken into custody following a string of complaints alleging he had taken full payment for wedding services and then disappeared without delivering the promised packages.

“Initial investigations found that all victims lodged reports against a company registered under a local man, who offered wedding packages to clients,” said Shazeli in a statement.

“The victims, drawn in by the attractive offers, engaged directly with the suspect. After discussions, he instructed them to make full payments via online transfer. Once payment was completed, the suspect became uncontactable.”

According to police, eleven reports have been filed so far — seven in Gombak, two in Sungai Buloh, and one each in Ampang Jaya and Sepang — with total losses amounting to RM309,299.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property. If convicted, the offence carries a sentence of between one and ten years in prison, whipping, and a fine.

“Members of the public are advised to exercise caution with promotional packages, and to verify the legitimacy of such offers with relevant authorities before making any payments,” Shazeli added.

The investigation remains ongoing. - September 30, 2025
