A 42-YEAR-OLD man was charged on Thursday over a high-value robbery at a luxury villa in Bukit Damansara, involving over RM2.1 million in losses.

The accused pleaded not guilty in a Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today to charges of participating in a gang robbery targeting a Chinese woman, which resulted in the huge haul.

Syed Ali Imran Alqudri Syed Zulkefeli @ Syed Zulalqudri, aged 42, was jointly charged with two others previously indicted and one suspect still at large.

The group allegedly robbed 31-year-old Chinese national Chen Kexue at her villa in Bukit Damansara at approximately 10.10pm on 21 July.

According to prosecutors, items stolen included a luxury wristwatch valued at RM1.2 million, three gold bars weighing a total of 300 grams, RM100,000 in cash and five mobile phones, with an estimated combined value of RM2,146,000.

The charge, framed under Section 395 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Wafa Zainal Abidin opposed bail on grounds that the offence is non-bailable, but requested that should the court exercise discretion, bail be set at RM100,000 with one surety due to the significant loss involved.

Defence counsel Bazlinda Bahrin appealed for a lower bail amount, stating: “My client suffers from diabetes and spinal issues. He has no fixed income, is responsible for his wife and a 14-year-old child, and has no prior criminal record.”

Judge Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin set bail at RM15,000 with one surety, ordering the accused to surrender his passport to the court pending the trial. The case is scheduled for mention on 4 November.

Earlier on 8 August, two other suspects – Mohd Syaqir Mohd Ami, 30, and Nur Mohamed Mahsar Mohamed Nor, 34 – also pleaded not guilty to the same charge.

They were granted bail of RM15,000 each with additional conditions, including reporting to the nearest police station and surrendering their passports. - October 3, 2025
