RESIDENTS of Kampung Bandar in Mukim Siong, Kedah, were thrown into panic on Sunday night after a fire broke out at the front section of a petrol station in the village.

According to Baling Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief, Assistant Fire Superintendent Zulkhairi Mat Tanjil, the department received a distress call at 8.52pm and promptly dispatched a team to the scene.

Zulkhairi, who led the operation alongside Senior Fire Officer I Samsari Ibrahim and eight BBP Baling personnel, confirmed the fire was confined to a petrol pump located at the front of the station.

“There were no casualties. The fire only affected the structure and equipment at the pump,” he said when contacted.

Thanks to swift intervention by firefighters, supported by the Kampung Lalang Volunteer Fire Brigade and Belia 4B youth members, the blaze was successfully contained before it could spread to the rest of the fuel station.

Zulkhairi added that crews employed foam-suppressing techniques to smother the surface of the petrol and prevent re-ignition, while also shutting off the main fuel valve as a precaution. - October 6, 2025
