PARTI Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is aiming for at least 30 per cent female representation in the upcoming 17th Sabah state election, with its women’s wing submitting a list of potential candidates, including fresh faces, for the party leadership’s consideration.
Wanita PKR Chief Fadhlina Sidek said the proposed candidates bring strong local ties, extensive experience and credible backgrounds.
“Those being considered have the mandate and support of the party,” she told reporters today. “We are confident they are winnable candidates for the state election, Insya-Allah.”
Fadhlina, who is also the Education Minister and Member of Parliament for Nibong Tebal, was speaking after attending the launch of the Byram Estate Resettlement Project, officiated by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
She reiterated that the party is holding firm to its long-standing commitment of securing 30 per cent female candidacy in elections.
“We maintain the 30 per cent target as always. These women have worked hard, contributed meaningfully to their communities and are fully deserving of being fielded,” she said.
With the Sabah State Legislative Assembly now officially dissolved, Fadhlina confirmed that PKR’s women’s machinery is in its final stages of mobilisation across the state.
“The entire Wanita PKR machinery is now in high gear. We are focused on strengthening our presence and ensuring full support in all identified constituencies,” she said.
Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced the dissolution of the 79-seat State Assembly on 6 October to make way for fresh polls.
Of the 79 seats, 73 will be contested, while the remaining six are appointed members. The Election Commission is scheduled to hold a special meeting on 16 October to finalise key dates and procedural matters for the state election. - October 11, 2025
