A 58-YEAR-OLD local man has been arrested on suspicion of molesting his 15-year-old niece while she was asleep at her home in this district during the early hours of Sunday morning, 12 October.

According to Tampin District Police Chief, Superintendent Amiruddien Sariman, the teenager lodged a report yesterday, claiming she was sexually harassed by her uncle around 3am while she slept.

“Following the victim’s report, a police team from the Tampin District Police Headquarters arrested the suspect at approximately 10.30pm last night along Jalan Kampung Baru to assist in investigations,” said Amiruddien in a statement.

A remand application was made under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and the suspect has been ordered to be held for seven days until 21 October.

The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which covers physical sexual assault involving a child.

“If convicted, the suspect faces a prison term of up to 20 years and may also be subject to whipping,” Amiruddien added.
