MINISTER of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Datuk Ewon Benedick has urged local entrepreneurs, cooperatives, and franchise operators to actively tap into the RM50 billion in funding and financing guarantees allocated under Budget 2026.
Speaking after his appearance on Bernama TV’s ‘Ruang Bicara’ programme, Ewon said the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (KUSKOP) stands ready to support businesses with more than just financing.
“If entrepreneurs and cooperatives don’t approach the government or ministry for access, these allocations remain just plans,” he said.
The support, Ewon explained, encompasses training, entrepreneurial guidance and access to domestic and international markets, aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of local enterprises.
He emphasised that the ministry’s strategies are grounded in collaboration between KUSKOP and its various agencies, ensuring that initiatives translate into measurable benefits on the ground.
“Success often begins with inspiration. If others can succeed, there’s no reason new entrepreneurs can’t. We share success stories of those helped by the ministry to motivate others,” he added.
Ewon also stressed the increasing importance of technology and digitalisation, highlighting the growing use of QR Pay and cashless transactions, particularly among small traders and hawkers in Sabah and Sarawak. These efforts align with the Small Traders and Hawkers Development Policy.
KUSKOP is placing renewed focus on social entrepreneurship and cooperative development under the National Cooperative Policy and relevant programmes in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
As of 2024, Malaysia had recorded over 16,000 cooperatives with 7.2 million members, generating a turnover of RM68 billion — surpassing earlier projections.
Calling on retirees, youth and aspiring entrepreneurs, Ewon encouraged wider participation in KUSKOP’s programmes to help cultivate sustainable, innovative and resilient businesses. - October 16, 2025
