THE upcoming 17th Sabah State Legislative Assembly election is expected to cost approximately RM116.8 million, according to Election Commission (EC) Chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun.

He announced the figure during a press conference held at the Federal Government Administrative Complex in Sabah, outlining key logistical and administrative details ahead of the state polls.

The voter roll to be used will be the most up-to-date, incorporating the August 2025 supplementary electoral roll, finalised as of 5 October.

“The electoral roll for the 17th Sabah state election contains 1,784,843 voters, comprising 1,760,417 ordinary voters, 11,697 members of the armed forces and their spouses, and 12,729 police personnel, including members of the General Operations Force and their spouses,” said Ramlan.

The updated electoral roll will be made available for sale from Saturday, 1 November 2025.

Voters can check their polling details — including polling centres, streams and serial numbers — via the EC’s portal at [https://mysprsemak.spr.gov.my](https://mysprsemak.spr.gov.my), by calling the EC hotline at 03-8892 7018, or using the MySPR Semak mobile application.

“The hotline operates daily from 8am to 8pm, and the checking facility will be accessible from 1 November,” he added.

Preparations for Nomination Day

To ensure a smooth nomination process, Ramlan advised prospective candidates to complete and verify their nomination forms in advance at their respective Returning Officer offices or at any state election office across the country.

“Candidates are also encouraged to submit their deposits early. This helps to expedite the nomination process and reduce delays on nomination day,” he said.

However, he emphasised that completed nomination papers must still be submitted in person by the candidate, proposer or seconder at the official nomination centre designated by the EC.

Observers Welcome

The EC will once again allow government agencies, non-governmental organisations and other eligible bodies to apply to serve as official election observers.

“These observers may monitor proceedings at nomination centres, polling stations, counting centres and official result tallying centres. They must comply with all terms and conditions set by the EC,” Ramlan said.

Application forms and further information will be available on the EC’s official website ([www.spr.gov.my](http://www.spr.gov.my)) from 9 October 2025, with the deadline for submissions set for Monday, 27 October.

Public Outreach and Live Coverage

The EC will also continue its practice of livestreaming selected polling and counting processes via its official Facebook page, as carried out in previous elections.

To encourage voter turnout, the commission will roll out its ‘Jom Kita Undi’ (Let’s Go Vote) campaign across various media channels, including television, radio, social media, public announcement systems and strategically placed banners.

“The aim is to foster greater civic participation and ensure every eligible voter exercises their democratic right on polling day,” said Ramlan. - October 16, 2025
