AIR quality in Serian, Sarawak, remained at a very unhealthy level on Wednesday morning, with the Air Pollutant Index (API) reaching 212 as haze continued to affect large parts of the country.
Data from the Department of Environment’s (DOE) Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed 28 areas nationwide recording unhealthy API readings as at 8am.
In Sarawak, Samarahan recorded an API reading of 186, followed by Sarikei and Sri Aman at 174 each, ILP Miri (172), Mukah (157), Bintulu (156), Miri (151) and Sibu (104).
In the peninsula, Batu Muda in Kuala Lumpur recorded 170, followed by Shah Alam, Selangor, at 162.
Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, recorded 159, while Tasek Ipoh and Tanjung Malim in Perak, as well as Putrajaya, each recorded 158.
Banting, Selangor, recorded 157, while Bukit Rambai in Melaka, Segamat in Johor and Jerantut in Pahang each recorded 155.
Petaling Jaya and Klang in Selangor recorded 154 each, while Seri Manjung in Perak, Kuala Selangor and Alor Gajah in Melaka, and Batu Pahat in Johor each recorded 152.
Other areas recording unhealthy readings included Pegoh Ipoh, Perak (147), Kluang, Johor (136), Tangkak, Johor (130) and Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan (109).
Meanwhile, 23 areas recorded moderate API readings.
These included Bandaraya Melaka at 99, Pasir Gudang and Temerloh at 96 each, and Larkin in Johor and Kuala Terengganu in Terengganu at 95 each.
Limbang in Sarawak recorded 90, followed by Politeknik Kota Kinabalu in Sabah (88), Pengerang in Johor (87), and Tanah Merah in Kelantan and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah at 84 each.
Taiping in Perak and Kimanis in Sabah recorded 83 each, followed by Besut in Terengganu (79), Balok Baru Kuantan in Pahang and Kota Bharu in Kelantan at 78 each.
Kemaman in Terengganu recorded 76, followed by Rompin in Pahang (74), Sungai Petani in Kedah (69), Tawau in Sabah (67), Seberang Jaya in Penang and Sandakan in Sabah at 63 each, and Keningau in Sabah (62).
Kota Tinggi in Johor recorded 100, which remained within the moderate category.
Only four areas recorded good API readings — Alor Setar in Kedah (43), Balik Pulau in Penang (39), Kangar in Perlis (36) and Langkawi in Kedah (20). - September 9, 2026
