THE Magistrate’s Court today ordered the 14-year-old boy charged with the murder of a 16-year-old schoolgirl at a secondary school toilet in Bandar Utama to undergo psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta.

Magistrate Amira Sariaty Zainal granted the application by the boy's lawyer under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The section deals with the procedure for when an accused person is suspected of being of unsound mind during a trial.

Lawyer Kitson Foong, who appeared as a friend of the court, assisted the teenager's lawyer Anwar Ezzad Zainal with the application.

He said the application was done for the boy's best interests to ensure he receives treatment.

"It is to ensure he does not harm himself if he is confirmed suffering from an illness and to determine his state of mind when committing the offence," he said. - October 22, 2025
