Inclusive care economy, legal reforms and port project among key issues in Dewan Rakyat today

The government’s push to develop an inclusive care economy and a landmark court ruling on online speech are among the matters to be raised in Parliament today.

THE development of an inclusive care economy in Malaysia is expected to take centre stage at today’s Dewan Rakyat sitting, alongside questions on major infrastructure projects, fishermen’s welfare and digital rights.

According to the Order Paper published on Parliament’s website, Mohamad Shafizan Kepli (GPS–Batang Lupar) will ask the Finance Minister about the government’s efforts to formulate and implement a care economy policy aimed at fostering inclusive growth and improving social protection.

Dr Halimah Ali (PN–Kapar) will question the Transport Minister on the RM255 million Sunway Pier Harbour project in Port Klang, seeking clarification on its planning approval status, environmental impact assessment and measures to ensure local employment benefits.

Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (MUDA–Muar) is set to raise concerns about Area Fishermen’s Associations (PNK), which he said have failed to protect the welfare of their members despite being officially registered and collecting annual membership fees.

During the oral question session, Syahredzan Johan (PH–Bangi) will ask the Communications Minister to clarify the government’s response to the Court of Appeal’s ruling that the use of the terms “annoy” and “offensive” in Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act is unconstitutional.

He is also expected to seek updates on government initiatives to amend the law in line with the court’s decision.

The Dewan Rakyat will continue the final day of debates on the Supply Bill (Budget) 2026, followed by the winding-up session at the policy stage.

The Third Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 15th Parliament is scheduled to run for 35 days and will conclude on 4 December. - October 28, 2025
