POLICE will seek a remand order for Malaysian director and singer Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, 42, to assist in the investigation of a Taiwanese influencer found dead in a hotel bathroom on Jalan Conlay on 22 October.
Dang Wangi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam, confirmed that Namewee will be remanded at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD) this morning.
“Namewee will be remanded this morning at the Dang Wangi IPD to assist in the investigation,” he said in a statement.
Namewee reportedly surrendered to police last night, having arrived in Kuala Lumpur from Johor Bahru. Posting on Facebook, he said, “I am now at the police station and will cooperate fully to assist in the investigation and provide explanations to the public and the family of the woman.
‘I will not flee. Previously, in seven instances when called by the authorities, I voluntarily came forward to give statements. I have never run away.”
Police have confirmed that the investigation into the influencer’s death, initially classified as sudden death, is now being conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Authorities are examining all angles, including Namewee’s presence with the victim at the time of the incident.
The influencer, aged 31, was discovered deceased in the hotel bathroom, prompting a comprehensive investigation that considers all possible circumstances surrounding her death. - November 5, 2025
