THE Democratic Action Party (DAP) will maintain its progressive stance in the upcoming Sabah State Election by promoting both young leaders and women as candidates, party Secretary-General Anthony Loke announced.
“DAP is the party that gives the most opportunities to young people and the most to women. We are a progressive party, youthful, and supportive of female leadership. Others talk about 30 per cent, yet today I announce that our list of candidates in Sabah comprises 50 per cent women,” he said at the launch of the DAP election machinery and candidate announcement event on Saturday.
Loke said the move demonstrates the party’s commitment to recognising and elevating the role of women in politics and national leadership.
“Half of our candidates are women — 50 per cent of the eight seats contested. This is how we respect and uplift women because they are equally capable of being strong leaders. Men and women are equally important, and we must have balance in leadership,” he said.
He added that DAP will contest eight seats in Sabah, with five of its candidates under the age of 40.
“The average age of our candidates is only 39 years, making DAP among the parties fielding the youngest line-up in this election. We believe young people must be given the chance to lead; only then do we secure a future,” Loke said. - November 8, 2025
