TWO tanker trucks carrying fuel for Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) aircraft caught fire at the Kuantan Air Base, today.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department Director, Datuk Mohd Razam Taja Rahim, said the incident at 2.50 pm, is believed to have occurred while the tanker trucks were transferring fuel.

According to him, 20 members of the Taman Tas and Indera Mahkota Fire and Rescue Stations (BBP), rushed to the scene of the incident as soon as they received a report.

“When the engines arrived at the scene of the incident, the fire was blazing and we used foam extinguishing techniques.

“The team took about 25 minutes to control the fire and it was completely extinguished at 4.20 pm.

"Initial investigations found that the fuel tank of one of the lorries that caught fire was empty and the other only contained about 20 percent fuel," he said in a statement today.

Mohd Razam said the two tankers had a capacity of 40,000 litres and were used to transport fuel for RMAF aircraft. According to him, the fire also caused the wall of a building near the location of the incident to catch fire.

"The quick action of the firemen and the assistance of RMAF personnel were able to control the fire from spreading to another tanker lorry with a capacity of 20,000 litres near the scene," he said.

Mohd Razam said the cause of the fire was being investigated and no casualties were reported in the incident. - November 8, 2025
