THE Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has announced that it will not field candidates in the 17th Sabah General Election.
LDP President Datuk Chin Su Phin said the party would give full support to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to ensure political stability and economic progress in the state.
He said the decision was made after in-depth consideration of the current political and economic landscape, both at the state and international levels.
“LDP believes that frequent changes of government do not necessarily guarantee better governance or economic prosperity.
“On the contrary, continued political instability often undermines investor confidence and hinders the state’s progress,” he said in a statement, yesterday.
Chin stressed that the unity of the people of Sabah is the main key to building a stable and prosperous future.
“We will focus our efforts on helping GRS in this election. Political stability is the foundation for long-term development and the well-being of the people,” he said.
According to him, the LDP also takes into account the balance of power between political parties in Sabah, while stating that the real strength of Sabah can only be guaranteed through increasing influence at the Parliamentary level.
“Although WARISAN has several state assembly seats, its limitations in Parliament constrain its ability to influence federal policies or resource allocation.
“Therefore, strengthening the strength of the Sabah Parliament is the only way to guarantee real benefits to the people,” he said.
With this decision, the LDP will play a strategic role in the GRS coalition, focusing on efforts to strengthen political unity and the overall economic development of Sabah. - November 10, 2025
