POLICE in Pahang have discovered 240 kilograms of cannabis in a car left by unknown individuals on a vehicle weighing scale at the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) construction site along Jalan Lama Bentong – Bukit Tinggi in Bentong.
Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman, Pahang Police Chief, said the drugs, estimated to be worth RM5.34 million, were found at 11.30 am on 4 November.
“The police rushed to the site after receiving a report from the project contractor about a suspicious car abandoned at the construction area,” he told a press conference.
Upon inspection, officers found 120 transparent plastic packages containing cannabis flowers packed into nine boxes inside the vehicle. A further 120 packages were discovered in four sacks.
“Based on information, the car had been left for several hours on the weighing scale at the project site. The vehicle uses a legitimate registration number and belongs to an individual from Johor,” Yahaya said.
Police are actively tracing the vehicle’s owner to assist with the investigation, which aims to determine why the drugs were left at the construction site.
He added that authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the cannabis was being transported by someone hired as a courier. “Investigations are ongoing, and no arrests have been made so far,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 39b of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. - November 11, 2025
