THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is free to investigate the RM456 million aerotrain project at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) if there is sufficient evidence to warrant a probe, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.

In a written reply in Parliament on Wednesday, Loke said the Aerotrain Project at KLIA Terminal 1 was entirely financed by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) without any government funding involvement.

“The MACC may carry out investigations in accordance with existing laws and based on sufficient evidence,” he stated.

He explained that the Transport Ministry, through the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), acts as the regulatory authority overseeing the project, which is still within its two-year Defects Liability Period (DLP).

“As announced by MAHB, the company is implementing an action plan to enhance the stability of the Aerotrain service system. In this regard, APAD has opened an investigation paper into MAHB concerning the recent service disruptions,” Loke said in response to a question from Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (PN–Arau).

Shahidan had asked when the Aerotrain would be fully repaired, following repeated breakdowns that have affected KLIA’s reputation as a world-class international airport.

He also questioned whether MACC would step in to investigate the project.

Loke said the operator’s licence issued to MAHB under the Land Public Transport Act 2010 requires the company to maintain a satisfactory level of service.

“For every breach of licence conditions, the operator may be fined up to RM250,000 per offence,” he said.

He added that, as of 21 September 2025, some 4.5 million passengers had used the KLIA Aerotrain service, with the trains collectively covering an average distance of 34,000 kilometres.

Loke had earlier expressed frustration over yet another breakdown of the Aerotrain service on 29 October, when passengers were forced to walk along the rail track in the early hours of the morning.

The latest incident marked the 21st service disruption since the new aerotrain began operations in July.
