PENANG DAP chairman Steven Sim Chee Keong has challenged Penang PAS to clarify where they stand over their Kedah counterparts move to seek more compensation from the island state.

Kedah PAS has insisted that Penang should be part of Kedah despite the Federal Constitution declaring that Penang is a state under the federation, said Sim.

"I therefore want to know if Penang PAS agrees with the contention by their Kedah brethren that Penang needs to pay more compensation to their neighbour."

Penang PAS needs to explain to the people, he said in a statement.

Penang DAP's stance is clear that the constitution has decreed that Penang is a state on its own, and it should no longer be held hostage by Kedah's scheming to hijack history for their own purpose, said Sim.

The issue is expected to erupt in the Penang state legislative assembly which will begin to pass the fiscal Budget for next year from tomorrow.

In the assembly, Pakatan Harapan's unity bloc with Umno has 29 state seats versus the Opposition's Perikatan Nasional, which is dominated by PAS with 11 state seats. - November 13, 2025.
